I am an old player that quit back in the days right before WotG, and I decided to give this game another shot. I already installed and started from scratch, and man is there a lot of different stuff. One thing I don't think has changed is that I won't get 100% out of this game with out an awesome LS community to enjoy it with, and that's what brought me here.
I read through the rules and perused the other forum posts, and I'm excited to join you guys if you'll let me. Since I'm starting from scratch I won't have much to offer everyone for a while, but once I can contribute I'd love to.
Also If you guys do end up giving me a pearl, are there any roles that you're lacking? (Tanking, Heals or DD?) I've done it all in the past, and had fun doing it.
Deoch is my character name as well, and I typically will be playing after 5pm EST on weekdays, and sporadically but for longer periods of time on the weekends. I'll be looking out for you guys when I'm on! (Do the /sea commands still work? lol) And thanks a million.
You are more than welcome to join Retrospect. We aren't lacking any roles so feel free to play whatever jobs you enjoy. /sea still works….cya in Vana'diel.
Hey, Deoch, w/b to the game. I think you'll fit in well with all of us in Retrospect. Seems like you'll be on around the same time as a lot of us, too, which is nice.
As for jobs that we need, I personally would like to see more of a few things… namely:
WHM Right now, we have Sofia, Etaine and Siani. Sofia is still busy with RL stuff I think so she's not on often, and Siani is my other character… so… we only really have one dedicated WHM. That's not exactly ideal. I think there are a few other people that have interest in playing WHM, but it remains to be seen whether or not those people will actually end up playing it. Not a lot of people actually enjoy playing this job for whatever reason.
BLM Ash is our only dedicated BLM right now, which is kind of hard for me to believe. I'd think we'd have at least a couple more, but we don't. Need more.
NIN I think the only dedicated NIN in the LS right now besides me is Shoyru. One or two more couldn't hurt. NIN is always useful inside abyssea. Personally I don't like playing it despite having a Kannagi, so more people who are serious about the job would be good. This would allow me to play WHM or MNK once I get Verethragna for zerging purposes.
BRD I miss having a BRD… this job is always nice. We have zero dedicated BRDs. I don't even think anyone has the job capped besides Siani. I certainly don't mind playing it, but that means we'd need more NINs and WHMs.
THF I think we have a few THFs, but as far as I know no one is really serious about the job. idk my memory is bad. Feel like we're lacking a THF a little too often though.
WAR Pez is our dedicated WAR but sometimes he's busy doing other stuff so it'd be nice to have at least one more. I know Mini can play WAR, but he's also a THF, so… more WAR and THF.
BLU This job never really hurts to have around. They're pretty self-sufficient, provided the player is competent, and they have plenty of uses.
Every other job we kind of have an abundance of, despite the fact that these jobs do not have a lot of practical use. Unfortunately a lot of the classes in this game are unbalanced and many simply don't have much use in most activities. Sure, you can get things done with these jobs, but it ends up being… not so efficient most of the time. DRG, PUP, SMN, DNC, DRK & SAM (barring exceptionally geared ones), etc… While a lot of people seem to enjoy playing these jobs, they're generally only useful in certain situations.
Sorry, don't get me wrong; this certainly isn't a super serious endgame LS. You're obviously free to level whatever job you want and still do stuff with us when you're ready. It's just a little frustrating for me personally watching so many people express interest in doing things and helping people, yet… most of the time, they're not willing to play a job that is actually needed and can truly help those they said they want to help.
Me, I've always been willing to level or play whatever I can be useful on. I never felt like the job I'm playing specifically would affect my overall experience that significantly. Sure I hate playing NIN but I'm not going to refuse to play it when I know I can get things done with it. Getting things done and simply being able to accomplish things with people is what matters to me.
I guess I just always found it odd that this kind of view was so uncommon. I never really understood how the job that someone played was so key to their enjoyment when playing the game… so much so that career WHMs will end up neglecting their main job for something absurd like DNC. Well I'm going to stop here because if I continue I might actually end up angry.
Sorry, I didn't mean to derail your thread with some huge rant. Like I said, you're obviously free to play whatever you want to play, and people obviously have different ideas about what makes things fun or enjoyable for them. Just thought I'd throw a few jobs out there for you in the event that you are truly interested in playing something that would help us when we're doing things. I kind of went a little overboard… sorry, lol.
A bunch of us started from scratch as well when we came back to ff, if there's anything you need help with don't hesitate to ask - I know several of our members are happy to help players get up to speed and enjoy the meat of the content as quickly as possible.
And lol, Ice…
Sofia is still busy with RL stuff I think so she's not on oftenIce T
So, mostly in reply to Ice's rant (lol). I agree with what he is talking about. Definitely need those utility jobs so that the LS could really be able to help each other out and do harder tasks for each other.
I'm bad for it as well, my only fully geared 99s are war, sam, dnc and bst. I plan to start gearing bard, whm and blm shortly since they are always high in demand. It might be useful, however, for the LS to consider powering through getting people seals and +2 items for those jobs as quickly as possible so that those jobs are readily available when people need help.
I just know that for myself, I don't really look forward to playing bard, whm or blm so it would motivate me a little more to play those jobs if I knew I could get them geared without soloing seals and +2 items for days and days by myself or suffering in port jeuno shouting for horrible pick-up groups that mostly fail miserably (for a job I'm not really passionate about lol). Helping out is great, but that is a lot of suffering to do by yourself just to get a job ready that you will only use when the LS needs ya!
Just some thoughts. Saturday morning coffee rant and all that.
Why don't you enjoy playing those jobs, exactly? Is it because the process of gearing them is painful, or is it because you genuinely don't enjoy them? If it's the gearing process, then, like I've said many times, I am willing to help in any way at any time if it means gearing a job that has value to the LS. If I've given off the impression that the process - for me, personally - is painful, then I apologize.
However, I don't believe anyone should play a job that is painful for them to play. If you are incapable of enjoying a particular job, you will never be good at it. If you can't enjoy it, you'll never be as useful to the group as you could be, had you possessed the capability to enjoy it.
This is something I struggle with regularly, simply because… not only am I often forced to play two primary roles, but I also have to deal with my complete lack of motivation and inability to focus. Despite these factors, I try my hardest to overcome them because I want to be useful and I want to help people. If a simple set of specific abilities prevents you from giving it your all, maybe you need to stop and think about why you play this game. Not directing this at you specifically, Ash… just ranting again, lol.
I apologize again for derailing this thread with nonsense. I'm drunk, so yeah… I promise I'm a nice guy though! Everyone else in the LS is nice too!
